Market vendor portraits
Clothing, underwear, vacuum cleaners, nuts and dried fruit, shoes,
vegetables, pastries, kids wear, shampoo, fruit, coats,
New, old, second hand; originals, fakes, winter wear, summer wear…
Anything and everything is for sale.
The vendors begin their shift at six in the morning
They spend the entire day on their feet, come rain or shine, snow or heat,
They eat their meals by their stalls,
They drink copious amount of tea to keep warm,
In the heat of the summer they douse themselves with cold water.
The prices are low,
The markets are accessible to people without cars,
One way or another they help sustain the impoverished.
If you ask them this is no way to earn a living but,
They have no other means to make ends meet.
Pazarcı portreleri
Giysi, iç çamaşırı, elektrik süpürgesi, kuru yemiş, ayakkabı, sebze, yufka,
çocuk giysisi, şampuan, meyve, kaban….
Yeni, eski, ikinci el, hakiki, sahte, yazlık, kışlık…
Onlar her şeyi satıyorlar.
Mesaiye sabah altıda başlıyorlar,
Yağmur, kar, soğuk, sıcak demeden ayakta saatler geçiriyorlar,
Yemeği tezgahın yanında yiyorlar,
Üşüdüklerinde gün boyu sıcak çay içiyorlar,
Yazın serinlemek için kafalarından kovayla su döküyorlar.
Ucuza satıyorlar,
Arabası olmayanlara ulaşılır oluyorlar,
Bir şekilde fakirlerin de yaşamı sürdürmesine katkıda bulunuyorlar.
Onlara sorsan yapılacak iş değil ama,
Başka iş yapmasını bilmiyorlar.
